Meet the band

The Curse (band)

comprises:

Joe Gomez

Joe was the lead singer, front-man and tambourine player. Joe had buckets of stage presence, though sometimes his exuberance sometimes got the better of him. One time during a pub gig in old Woking, Surrey he was so in to the song he was singing that he leapt up in the air and broke a chandelier. He was a great lyricist and was a great chorus writer. He used an AKG D5 super-cardoid microphone and 100W PA

Dave Kent

Dave was backing singer, lead guitarist and sometime keyboard player (owning a Yamaha DX9 FM synth). The main song writer in the band and he collaborated with Joe and Will to co-write some of their best loved songs. Photographed below with guitar No. 2 his Japanese 1983 Squier Stratocaster electric guitar. Guitar No. 1 was a Phantom Rhythm-master strat with two single coils and with a bridge humbucker pickup. Guitar No. 3 was a 1981 Japanese Matsumoku Satellite dual humbucker through-neck Strat/Tele hybrid as seen on the “Saturday Morning” Video. He used a vintage 1970’s Orange OR-100 2×12 Valve Combo Amplifier nick-named the “back breaker”. As he was always having problems with daisy chained stomp boxes at gigs due to the Power supply connections and intermittent 1/4 inch double jacks. He ended up made his own multi-effects pedal board before they were even a thing. Prior to the homemade patch controlled multi-effects unit, his pedal board consisted of discrete pedals. The pedal-board had a Dunlop Crybaby Wah-wah, Arion Super Distortion SDL-1, MXR compressor, Colorsound DopplerTone Phaser, Boss CE2 Chorus, Boss BF2 Flanger, MXR Analog Delay and a Boss DD-1 Digital Delay and a Boss NF-1 Noise gate.

Will Kent

Will was backing vocals, bass guitarist and sometimes keyboard player. He originally used a Kay Bass but he upgraded to a red Washburn headless Bass guitar with a 100W JHS Keyboard amp. He had a Roland keyboard

James BOBBETT

James was the drummer and Percussionist of the band. He originally had a Pearl kit, which he part exchanged for a brand new Premiere APK drum kit. James was the life and soul of the band. He was always the joker, he was very amusing always messing around. He once did a spoof interview in the style of Alan Wicker (not appropriate for anyone under 18).
